Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Whoopie Pies



It is time to switch things up a little. As the seasons slowly progress from sweet summertime to Autumn’s colorful changes there’s one thing on our minds…Pumpkin season! From pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes, to pumpkin bread we are testing new ways to enjoy the delicious taste of pumpkin. We have made a twist on Maine’s State Treat, the whoopie pie. We took our traditional chocolate whoopie pie and expanded to Pumpkin Chocolate Chip whoopie pies! But we’ve got one question…which filling do you prefer, traditional or cream cheese? While it seems a few more of our Facebook fans voted for cream cheese there were many who were pulling for traditional or both!



Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Whoopie Pies

First make the whoopie pie cakes,

The recipe we use was developed from a recipe created by the Dixmont snowmobile club. Below is a 35 year old recipe card we developed our recipe from. 


We mix in 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batch before baking for a touch of sweet chocolate to make these treats so delicious! 
Then test which filling you like best,
Cream Cheese Filling

3 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract 
Put butter, vanilla, and cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Combine well, and add in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time...that way you won't be covered in it when you're done. :)
Or Traditional Filling

½ lb. Butter
½ tbsp. Vanilla
4 cups Powdered Sugar
One 7 ½ oz. Jar of Fluff

Put butter, vanilla and fluff in a mixing bowl. Combine well, and add in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time…just like with the cream cheese filling.


Lastly, ENJOY!

Stop by our restaurant to pick a few up for home!

  13. I love that this is the recipe I came across when searching for a pumpkin whoopie pie recipe! I live in Ohio, but I'm from Old Town, Maine, and I love Dysarts! This recipe rocks, too.

    I'm a fan of the classic filling for chocolate whoopie pies, but I'm slightly partial to the cream cheese version for the pumpkin.
