In
honor of Father’s Day, we’d like to share some facts and history about the
fathers in the Dysart’s family.
David
Dysart’s grandfather was a sea captain who hauled freight all over the world.
The hauling freight trade was passed down to future generations - in 1928,
David’s father, Edward, founded the Dysart’s company as a hauler of general
freight.
A
father who believed in good values, Edward Dysart believed that to survive and
be successful you needed to be “customer oriented and have a good quality
product at a reasonable price.” This philosophy still stands firm today, and is
the foundation that Dysart’s has been built on.
Edward
left the freight business to open up a truck stop on Hammond St. in 1934, where
it remained until 1958. This was the previous Dysart’s location. As a result of
the construction of I-95, the present Hermon location was built in 1967. It
emphasized quick service for both the truck and its driver and was designed to
be a “home for the truckers”.
When
planning the first Dysart’s restaurant menu, David based it on Northern Maine
logging camp meals, where baked beans were served every day. He also wanted breakfast to be on the menu
at any time of the day. He kept to the original menu as best as he could, and at
least once a week he would lecture his daughter Mary on slight variations he
detected. Mary is now the restaurant manager, and aside from adding a little
variety and putting in healthier versions of some menu items, she has stayed
true to the real homemade food Dysart’s is known for.
David’s
sons, Ed and Tim have also followed in their father’s footsteps. Ed is the
president of Dysart’s and is the third generation of his family to run the
business. He sits in the same front office where his father sat. Tim is in
charge of the fleet fuel side of the business.
Just
as the fathers of Dysart’s have taught and passed on values to their children,
so have our fathers or father figures become role models. Whether it’s Dad,
Grandpa, or Papa, spend some time with that special guy in your life and
celebrate Father’s Day with us at Dysart’s!
Father’s
Day is on June 15, 2014.
I don't think a week goes by that Dave is not mentioned in our household. Usually he's referred as "the old man". No doubt he is dearly missed.
